The Manhattan

A classic whiskey cocktail and one of my favourites.

What do the other folks at the lounge of this? What's your favourite recipe to use?

Manhattan (as I had the other day)

2oz Rye Whiskey
1oz Red/Sweet/Italian Vermouth (Cinzano)
A few dashes of Perchaud's Bitters
One Cherry (which I had soaked in brandy beforehand)

Stirred and strained into a chilled cocktail glass.

Re: The Manhattan

Do you only use Rye, or will any bourbon/whiskey do?

Sounds like a nice cocktail otherwise!

Cheers,

Do you like your Old Fashioned with Rye or Bourbon? Your Martini with Gin or Vodka.

In short, I prefer Rye, but you can use Bourbon (Scotch is a bit of a different character - but possible). I comes down to what you prefer. I'd like to hear anyones thought on using particular bourbons.

Re: The Manhattan

to me Rye and Bourbon taste totally different. I actually bought my first bottle of Rye last year to make Manhattans since it calls for it. But I make it with my dry vermouth that I use for my martini... (always gin for me)

I'll have to try it with the sweet vermouth and a brandy soaked cherry!

I think this week calls for a trip to the store...

Re: The Manhattan

I don't think I've ever used dry vermouth in it. I have just picked up a bottle of Overholt and one of Rittenhouse 101. Looking forward to trying those.
