Best picks?

Hey there!

I went on the base today and saw some of the Port offerings there, thought I'd make a note of them and ask about them here for opinions.

The ones I can get there are:

Jackson-Triggs: Vidal Icewine (seems pretty expensive for such a small bottle!)
Fonseca: Porto Bin #27
Sandeman: Madeira
Sandeman: Tawny Porto
Sandeman: Founders Reserve
Cockburn's: Special Reserve Porto

Any experiences with any of these? Any good ones in the bunch? Any in particular to avoid?

I like fairly sweet, but not "candy" sweet, and definitely do not like sour stuff (not even the sour candy!)

And these are for special occasions? Or before/after dinner drinks? Or what? How are these usually served?
Also, room temp? Or chilled?

Sorry for all the dumb, newbie questions, but I'm tryin' to learn over here!

Cheers,
Paul

Re: Best picks?

I am a big fan of Vintage and Late Bottle Vintage; the latter is a more economic alternative.

Generally Cockburn's is one of my least favourite, Taylors, Grahams, Dows are my preference. In the UK you can pick a nice one up for between £5.00 and £12.00 depending on deals.

Ruby and Tawny are not so much my thing.

Re: Best picks?

Had the pleasure of trying a Taylors Late Bottled Vintage Port the other day. Quite a nice tipple.
